Here's the part people get wrong after they've cleared the first hurdle: they treat one accepted assessment like it's the whole game. It's not. It's one at-bat.
Apply to more than one thing
These platforms run multiple project types at once, and acceptance into one doesn't guarantee steady work — some projects fill fast, some go quiet for weeks, some just aren't a fit once you're in the weeds. The move is to get through as many relevant assessments as you reasonably qualify for, not just the first one that said yes. Think of it as building a bench of players, not just betting on one player.
Consistency beats intensity
Nobody's impressed by a burst of 12 hours on day one followed by silence for two weeks. What gets you flagged as reliable — and reliable is the whole game here — is steady, predictable output. Show up, do the work, submit on time, repeat. The annotators and reviewers who stay employed long-term aren't the fastest or flashiest. They're the ones who never make a project manager wonder where they went.
A few other things worth knowing:
Track everything. Which platform, which project, what pay, what the instructions actually said. You will not remember this in three weeks, and disputes are a lot easier to win with a paper trail.
Don't ghost a project mid-task. If you're stepping away, say so. Silent disappearance burns trust faster than almost anything else.
Quality dips get noticed before you think they will. If your output slips, the algorithm — or the human behind it — usually catches it before you do.
Get comfortable with ambiguity. Some instructions will be vague on purpose, to see how you handle judgment calls. Document your reasoning when you make one.
